Following our really successful fashion show event recently, we wanted to tell you all about the wonderful evening of enlightenment, fashion and fun. We got involved because we wanted to work to help build confidence and reduce the social isolation that can be so acute for deaf people.
Shopping can be a terrifying experience for those with a hearing loss but as a result of the work jojo’s have done with Action for Deafness, we are now working closely with them to provide a ? boutique where deaf people’s needs are well catered for. The Chief Executive Officer of Action for Deafness, Jane Shaw, says:
“AFD works tirelessly to enable and empower deaf people. Confidence can evaporate very rapidly when hearing is lost and communication is difficult or impossible. Even the toughest amongst us become socially isolated: No phone chats, No eating whilst chatting, And the ever present challenge of background noise.
Socialising is challenging and exhausting when relying on lip reading and we become more and more inclined to decline invitations.
SO, if we look fabulous our confidence will increase and we might be more likely to say ‘Yes Please’ and get out there and be part of things for a while.
Our beautiful models from the fashion show are all service users with personal experience of deafness. Jo has certainly made them all look stunning this evening and following a truly wonderful evening, we are very grateful to:
